Not as good that I hoped for, easy reading but a bit slow,

This book was included on my daughter's Wish List. It is part of a science fiction saga. It arrived as expected and in excellent condition. Even the cover was perfect. And my daughter loved the gift.

Love this sequel to the first book, in my opinion Katherine V. Forrest is one of the best!

I loved this book! I did, do, did! I think I will probably be rereading this one. Correction: I think I will be bopping off to the store with a gift certificate I found and buying the first book. I love it. I'm a huge science fiction fan. And this has just enough to make me happy. It also has a character who reads almost closely like a librarian to me. And I love library type stuff, information architechture and organization. I like strong women. Okay and bad me, I like the conclusion regarding population decline, male infertility and female empowerment. I have a lot of male friends on-line and I don't have a problem with men but given the current political climate in the United States, it is nice to read something that well... subversively like the Da Vinci Code, could have elements of truth and explain things like why some religious zealots want to tell me what I can do with my female body. But that said, that aside, I like it!

To keep it pretty short and to the point, I'd say that if you loved "Daughters of a Coral Dawn," then you should read "Daughters of an Amber Noon." The sequel - as is so often the case - is not as good as the original ... but it's not bad, either, and if you finished Coral Dawn wanting to know what happens next, you should check this one out. :)Note: The reader from South Carolina appears to have an odd view of what "lesbian" is, though she apparently is one herself. I would agree with the person who said that Amber Noon isn't as lesbian as I would've liked it to have been ... and point out to the reader from South Carolina that having elements such as "all the men were evil" and "all the men were murderers and rapists" does not make a book "more lesbian."Lesbians generally don't hate men - I think you've confused us with married heterosexual women. ;)

Daughters of a Coral Dawn is a romance story set within the context of a science fiction novel. This sequel: Daughters of a Amber Noon is a science fiction novel with a small but, noble love story.If you did not read Daughters of a Coral Dawn I recommend that you do before delving into Amber noon, but it is not necessary --it does stand alone as a viable chapter within a larger story. The reason I recommend the reading of Coral Dawn is the author has set in motion from the middle of Amber Noon an open ended connection back to the original story. And we are rewarded at the end with obvious references that the story of the Unity will continue beyond Amber Noon and perhaps beyond that. My hope is that part three will be a great romance novel (read: Curious Wine or An Emergence of Green) set within a science fiction story as detailed and memorable as Amber Noon and Coral Dawn. And that we don't have to wait so long to read it!As for Amber Noon, Forrest's writing is as fluid as ever and her research evidently exhaustive. I found all the characters compelling, but perhaps the Zed and Desmond characters to be most fully realized. I feel that this may have been the author's intention as well. We are only getting to know Joss and Tara; their time has yet to come. We also hope that Africa, the soul of Amber Noon, will return as well, although that seems unlikely. But, who knows what Master story teller Forrest has in mind for the future of the Unity.

This book just doesn't cut it. Another reviewer called it shallow and I agree. The description of the home they made out of the most inhospitable place on earth was less than adequate. The characters weren't developed and their interactions were completely disjointed. I don't know how many times I yawned and thought 'who cares'. It was only pure stubbornness that made me finish it. I didn't think the first book was that hot either but at least it had a cohesive story, fully developed characters, and a good description of the world the women lived in.Another problem is the same one I had with 'Coral Dawn'. Sci-fi aside, it's less than realistic to believe that men are evil and women pure as the driven snow. The idea that without men everyone would live in harmony with absolutely no violence or fighting is ludicrous. The evolutionary theory at the end was interesting but if she wants the reader to believe it she has to do better than saying 'women don't kill each other'.

Manuel has been active since 1984 in computer vision, and since 2002 in medical image analysis. He has published more than 250 refereed papers and 2 textbooks (one of which an international standard with 2,793 citations, Google Scholar 25 Oct 2016). He is co-director of VAMPIRE (Vessel Assessment and Measurement Platform for Images of the Retina), an international research initiative led by the Universities of Dundee and Edinburgh (co-director Dr T MacGillivray). VAMPIRE develops software tools for efficient data and image analysis, with a focus on multi-modal retinal images. VAMPIRE has been used in UK and international biomarker studies on cardiovascular risk, stroke, dementia, diabetes and complications, cognitive performance, neurodegenerative diseases, and genetics.Dr Tom MacGillivray is an expert in the field of image processing and analysis for clinical research. His team staffs the Image Analysis Core laboratory of the Edinburgh Imaging group joint with the Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility, at the University of Edinburgh where he is a Senior Research Fellow. The laboratory provides specialist support to investigators accessing data from a variety of imaging modalities including MR, CT, PET, ultrasound and retinal imaging. Dr MacGillivray has extensive experience with retinal image processing and analysis with more than 15 years experience facilitating clinical research that features retinal imaging. This includes studies on stroke, cardiovascular disease, MS, diabetes, kidney disease, dementia and age-related cognitive change. In close collaboration with the University of Dundee (Prof E. Trucco, School of Computing), he co-ordinates an interdisciplinary initiative called VAMPIRE (Vascular Assessment and Measurement Platform for Images of the REtina, vampire.computing.dundee.ac.uk) whose aim is efficient, semi-automatic analysis of retinal images and the pursuit of biomarker identification.Yanwu Xu (Frank) is head of Biomedical Research Department at Central Research Institute, Guangzhou Shiyuan Electronics Co., Ltd. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology & Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China. He received the B.Eng. and PhD degrees from University of Science and Technology of China, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Nanyang Technological University from 2009 to 2011, and a Research Scientist at Institute for Infocomm Research, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) , Singapore, from 2011 to 2017.His current research interests include ocular imaging, medical image analysis, computer vision and machine learning. He is the principal investigator of the AGAR+ project (1.5M SGD), awarded by A*STAR Biomedical Engineering Programme (BEP) grant office in 2015. He is also a co-investigator of three other Singapore Research Projects. Soccer is a complicated game, but this book breaks down the rules - including all of the extra kicks for penalties and balls going out of bounds. I love this series. It makes things simple and understandable for kids, and it has the little rookie character (in this case characters) making funny comments throughout the book.We own a couple of these books already, and I will be adding the soccer book to our library. These books are fun to read over and over again, even once your kids know the rules. The pictures are from real life soccer teams, so there's a variety of people - men and women. It can be a little confusing because it's not two teams playing each other throughout the book, but it shows the universality of soccer across the world.I highly recommend this book and the others in the series.Blog: Mom's Radius

I have all of the books in this series so far, and in addition to teaching my kids the basics of major sports, they amuse me too. This may be the snarkiest of them all, though, right from the inside of the front cover where they make a little fun of the fact that it's the most popular sport in the world but americans know basically nothing about it (and call it 'soccer' instead of 'football').It's also the first book in the series to show female athletes, which isn't an indictment of the series so far so much as the fact pretty much only the men get attention in the major american sports. In the opening few pages, when they show the teams getting ready for a game, they show the US Women's National Team and the Japanese Women's National Team getting ready for the world cup final in 2015. From then on, it's a pretty regular alternation of whether male or female players are shown.I love this book and think it's great, but i can't close the review without pointing out that it does get the Offside Rule just slightly not right. More or less right, but not exactly right. If you read this book then watch professional footie, you'll be confused the first time a contentious offside call is made (or not made).

Book was very entertaining. Sam is an orphan abandoned as a baby and has never felt loved. He corresponds for a year with Ellie. He sends money to her for herself and three of her siblings. She shows up with all right of her siblings.This story has drama and an interesting story. I was ready to go to book 2 of the series but it is not a valuable yet. Story is worth a place in your liabrary.

An easy story that makes you appreciate people who do the right thing. Ellie was so strong in some ways yet so unsure in other ways. Such is life

Loved this book so much. I 've always been fascinated with Mail order Brides and this book was really good. I came to love this town and the especially the boys that made the "marriage" pact. Loved the spiritual parts. I can't wait for the next book.

This story had way too many characters with long back stories to keep track of. It disrupted the flow. The story of the main characters kept bejng interrupted by long dissertations on characters that could have been further developed in a later book. I like the concept of the story but was frustrated by all the speed bumps. A good editor could have improved the story structure and flow. The potential was there for memorable leading characters, but was not obtained.

Everyone in Eagle Harbor had a great love story. Ellie had to travel to Texas to get hers. Love may not come in exactly the manner you expect, but it is just as wonderful when it finds you.

There are enough characters to provide for many books in this series. That's nice because one can watch the characters evolve. I do wish one particular character would not switch from being mean to sweet so abruptly. Other than that, solid read.

I enjoyed the characters in this book, but I much prefer the previous series set in Northern Michigan. Still, anyone who enjoys historical Christian fiction will find this appealing.

I love mail order bride and marriage of convenience stories, so I was very eager to read Tomorrow’s First Light. I am happy to report that it is a wonderfully written novel and a favorite of mine for sure!This story is a new series, yet Ellie and her siblings do appear in the Eagle Harbor novels, too. So, if you have read those books, then you may recognize Ellie Spritzer. However, if you haven’t read them, don’t worry. This series is a new start for Ellie and her siblings.In Tomorrow’s First Light, Ellie and Sam have such great chemistry and plenty of nervousness with each other to keep things tense for awhile! Sam definitely struggles with learning to be open with his wife and even with his friends. This is due to his backstory as an orphan and creates some additional problems that must be overcome.I love the cast of characters that the author introduces us to in this book and am looking forward to reading the future novels in this series.I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Awesome stories about things mere logic or science just can't explain. Maybe it's intuition or Divine intervention. But some things happen that our mortal brains just can't explain. I so enjoy these stories!

Have read previous Chicken Soup Books which I felt were written, and the content presented, in an interesting and appealing format. They always gave the reader a desire to continue following story after story. I felt this book had little appeal and was written by someone who had minimal experience in presenting a story. Was definitely disappointed in this read!

Amazing testimonies of how God can communicate to us through our dreams. I really loved reading these stories.

I have been reading this book and have found parts of it quite difficult to comprehend. It covers all religions as it says and brings similarities and origins to light, however, it takes for granted that you already know the doctrines and gods of all religions. It requires advanced study into other religions to understand some of the references and concepts offered. Very thorough in its coverage of topics and delivers what the title says it will. Overall a very good book.

For those unfamiliar with any of the work of Samael Aun Weor may find this book a little hard to read. But if you give it time it doe show glimpses of knowledge that cannot be reached with conventional methods. For those who are familiar with his work, you will enjoy. The biggest mistake with any divinatory art is that people get caught in the magic of them all without perceiving the wisdom that lay esoterically within them. To understand the wisdom of the Tarot and Kabbalah from a Gnostic perspective, this is second to none.

I'm only on the third page, and I have three pages of notes! It's a lot to absorb but is told so smoothly it is easy to understand. I would definitely recommend it, from glancing through and reading excerpts, to anyone who needs more enlightenment. The 'Tarot & Kabbalah' by Samael Aun Weor is beautifully illustrated and written.

I love to read all perspectives! I learned a lot and found it very interesting. I have another book that is a lot like this one!

This is one of my hands down favorite books dealing with how the Tarot is related with Kabbalah. I would definitely recommend this as a must read for all those who are studying either Kabbalah or Tarot.

Dave Van Horn is known as a real estate notes expert, and the sections of the book on note investing made it as clear as a pretty complicated business can be. If you're curious about note investing, this is a great place to start because the explanations, particularly of what an investor can do with non-performing notes, are straightforward and the examples are helpful. Despite the book's emphasis on note investing, the first half of it goes far beyond what note investing books cover, and this was actually my favorite part of the book. This section covers a lot of ground, including hard money lending, using HELOCs, several sub-strategies for owner financing, lease-option deals, subject-to deals - and basically the main things a real estate investor would want to know about creative ways of getting more deals done and maximizing the value of the deals you're already doing by thinking as much about the financing as you do about the properties. Through it all, Dave laces his personal good, bad and ugly stories, and I liked the way he included actual documents from several of the deals he's done over the years. All in all, this is a quick read, suitable for beginners to advanced investors, and it's the kind of book I'll come back to again when I want a refresher on the strategies Dave explained.

OK, call me jaded, but it seems as if there are way too many books like this out nowadays. The kind that, while marketed as a book that's going to give you some practical nuts-and-bolts information you can put to work right away, serves mainly to plug the author's current venture. And, as agreeable as Dave van Horn seems as a writer, that's what this book seems like to me. Many chapters recount Dave's history as a real estate investor and lessons learned, which is OK as far as it goes. I will say that the book is written fairly well, and there are minimal grammatical gaffes. However, it seems as if the main point of the book is to set up the reader for an introduction to Dave's current business, which allows investors to buy notes from his note funds. Even this limited goal would be a service to readers, except that in order to invest in Dave's note funds, you have to be an accredited investor, a requirement that imposes income/asset tests that most investors don't meet. So ultimately, I can't give this book a very good rating. I gave it two stars instead of one because it does read well and, as I said, the author seems an agreeable type.

Purchased this book to learn about note investing. Had to read through two thirds of the book before reaching to topic of notes. Mr. Van Horn is obviously a highly skilled and experienced real estate investor and entrepreneur. I appreciated all the information and stories he shared. A decent general real estate book but a bit disappointing with regards to note investing. Did not deliver to my expectations.

The author assumes that his readers are already familiar with all the terms involved in real estate investing, and therefore does not provide much in the way of definitions or explanations. For me, as a newcomer to most of the concepts, it was a one-star experience, but I added a star because I'm sure there are those out there who already have sufficient knowledge to get some value from it. This star's for you folks. If you're a beginner, be prepared to do some term searching and outside reading to know what he's talking about in some of his explanations.An example from page 102 under "Lease Options": The author's example is of a two-year lease option that "included a non-refundable option deposit (not the same as a security deposit) for $5,800." So we at least now know that a lease option is not a security deposit, but the text contains no other explanation. The entry in the glossary at the back provides only a little more information than the text.In the next sentence we learn that the author "was receiving top-of-the-market rent for $1,750/month, with a rent credit of $200/month, and a seller assist of 3 percent of the sales price."If anyone is wondering what a "rent credit" or "seller assist" is, like I was, you can just keep on wondering because there is again no explanation in the text. There is a very brief sentence on "seller assist" in the minimally helpful glossary, but no entry for "rent credit."I'm sure a lot of people already know the meaning of these and many other terms the author throws around. For the rest of us it's just too bad. I'm left with the impression that if I knew enough to fully understand the book, I wouldn't need the book.

Dave Van Horn's new book has offered me some serious gems of insight when it comes to my family's finances. It was nice to be able to personalize Dave’s experiences through his high and low points, what he did right and the obstacles he encountered along the way. His strategy about paying for college with a note really struck a chord with me. Being a mother of 5, I wish I read this when my first child went to college. Rest assured, I will be trying this with my other children. Professionally, I am looking forward to expanding my multiple streams of income -- so that someday (after my kids are educated) I can be a lady of leisure!!!! Great read with something for everyone.

Dave does a great job of taking you on a journey of his investment career. He talks about his mistakes and his big wins. I love the "if I could do it over again" that he brings to the journey. Not only that, Dave seems to want to educate inspiring investors about the power of leverage. I took so much from this book that once I listened to it on audible, I also bought a hard copy so I could go back and reference. I've listen to it twice now and I have a plan to re-read ( the chapters I like the most) at least once a year. If you are an inspiring investor, who loves hard real estate, but also loves the idea of playing the bank, this book is for you. If you are a seasoned real estate portfolio holder, and looking to sit back and actually enjoy your years of hard work by re-thinking the structure in which you currently hold your properties then you should defiantly at least have a look at what Dave has to say. I doubt you'll regret it.
