The Game is, of course, the centerpiece but the cultural swirl is well documented. For those not around in the 60s it is a primer of the times. Fir those of us there, a poignant reminder.
I remember listening to this live on the radio. It brought me back to the point where it was easy to recollect the excitement and drama of this game. I think the author did a great job retelling the game. There are also great stories of the individuals and the two universities. This is good for sports fans and those who seek Ivy league comparison of the elite.
This book is a great read! It reminds the reader that it is possible for people from widely divergent points of view to work together for a common cause. The late 60's were as turbulent as today. The lessons in the book about compromise, self sacrifice and trying to make a difference are all reminders that things change over time but also remain the same.
Very well written and captures the personalities of the players and coaches. On one level it is about a great football game and the teams that played The Game, but it also is an interesting perspective on the changing times of the late 60s and the evolution of Yale and Harvard during that time period. I am not sure how much a person unfamiliar with The Tie would enjoy it, but for me as a football manager who attended Yale and was on the sideline for the game, it was outstanding.
As only a 6 yr alum from Harvard, couldn't get tickets to see the game in the stadium, saw it in CCTV instead. Good profiles of many of the players involved - confirmed my wisdom of going to Harvard, not Yale!
Enjoyable return to the 1960s and the strife on campuses. Became impatient toward the end as I wanted to get to what happened to key players. Epilogue was disappointing on the afterlives of the player.
Partial to it because I was on the H team although injured early in the season- excellent capture of people, campuses and politics in 1968
