One of the heroes in this storyline is a 12-year-old girl who knows how to pick locks! When Emily’s father is murdered and she is kidnapped, John Stone is notified and comes out of the shadows to rescue her and return her to her mother. John is part owner of a bar called Fox Hole and he is a former Army Ranger, as was Emily’s father.This is a wonderfully complex thriller with tons of action and computer technology intrigue! A really entertaining read that is hard to put down!
The Hard Kill, and the character John Stone, reminds me of the Executioner Series of old by Don Pendleton. Stone is a former well trained soldier bent on doing what ever is necessary to retrieve his god daughter from trained killers. THEY WILL PAY A STEEP PRICE for taking her. The story rated 5 stars but it desperately needs an editor! But despite that, I'll definitely purchase the next in the series!
Plot believably, character development, narrative style, realistic dialogue all figure into making any literary work appealing and worth a reader's time. It is simply assumed that anyone who could imagine himself an author would first have mastered basic language skills. I closed this book on page 1 when I came to the following sentence: "Now twelve years old, Frank was relieved to know that her independence didn’t yet exclude wanting to spend time with her father." The Manning brothers should have stuck to farming or football or whatever they did before, because they are not writers. One star seemstoo generous, but Amazon does not allow a zero rating.
The Hard Kill introduces John Stone, a retired veteran, with a lotof experience and skills. Someone has made the mistake of killinghis best friend and kidnapping his goddaughter. They will notlive to regret it. I rely upon others' reviews to make an informed decision anytime I make a purchase,so it is my intention to help others do the same. It doesn't have the most intricate plot, but the action scenes are extremely descriptive and you're able to picture them perfectly in your head.I particularly enjoyed the added details of knowing exactly what guns the enemies are using as well as the hero.Also, I feel I should point out that the cover art is very deceptive, it's not a soldier at war kind of story at all. I didn't mind at all though.Highly recommended!
John Stone is a Retired Army Ranger looking to live a quiet peaceful life until one day another former Ranger, informs John that a very close brother-in-arms was murdered and his daughter Emily kidnapped. Emily just so happens to be John's God Daughter and John swears he will return Emily back to her Mother. You will love Emily for she keeps her wits about her and uses some tricks that her Dad had taught her. The kidnappers are using Emily to try and her Mother Jennifer to steal a newly developed decoding device from her work place. The tracking methods used to find the bad guys and the intense action is so great that it is like no other. I loved this book so much that I have already purchased the next book and have already gotten started on it.
It was an awesome fast paced story that says what some people will do for familt
