I consider this book a perfect primer on the subject of insects. I have always taken a copy of it on every interstate trip I have ever gone on to answer the inevitable question. " Daddy, what kind of bug is this?" The text is clear and concise. The illustrations are perfect, extremely accurate, lifelike, as well as pleasing to the eye. And the little maps adjoining every text are a very clever way to deliver that information without taking up a lot space. The quality and format of the entire Zim natural history sets the standard for all the rest. This is a quick reference format. One animal, one page of info and a portrait of said creature. The illustrations are top notch, perfectly done to show the subject in life like detail and coloration. I have always found the paintings to be much more pleasing to the eye than dead photographs. It should be noted that this is a quick reference guide, not an encyclopedia. While every major or common insect family may be covered, this is not meant to include every species of beetle or butterfly in the continental USA.There are a number of more comprehensive field guides that attempt that heady task. This is a general guide to illustrate the most common or conspicuous creatures found in a given area. I was first given this book, along with several other Zim guide books on different animal groups, ,a,mammals, fish, and reptiles. I read and reread them because they sparked my curiosity about each subject to the point that no one had to prod me into opening them. Today there are hundreds of flamboyantly illustrated, oversize tomes written in any number of styles. Many times they are full of dramatic photographs with amazing close ups. But after looking up a particular insect one can easily come away wondering what the bug actually looks like. Other tomes are huge and meant to be, they are covering the most ubiquitous form of life on earth. But whether shopping for a budding back yard naturalist, or to satisfy casual curiosity, this particular book on insects is the best illustrated and best written I have ever seen. I have never been without a copy and over my life time I have had to replace one worn out copy after another.

The advice given may seem like common sense, but in the haze of learning a new skill, many students gloss over vital aspects or jump past them entirely. An advanced dancer dances the basics well to make the dance look easy and natural. The only way to do this is to concentrate on basic technique when you learn to develop good habits that will carry you through the more difficult levels. Salsa Bootcamp offers important advice and suggestions in a readable way that should help dancers of Salsa and all partner dances. It is also concise and inexpensive, especially considering that it could save you a lot in terms of lessons if you follow the advice. This book should be "standard issue" for any salsa dancer.

The title of this is a little misleading. This is a terrific guide to setting out a game plan for how to go about learning to salsa - or any dance for that matter. It does a great job of giving you a structure that will let you get the most out of lessons and social events and has lots of nice proper manners for starting out, as well as tons of encouragement.What it isn't, is a guide to actually teach you how to salsa dance. This is not a technique guide and if you buy it with that in mind, you'll be disappointed. But if you're really trying to learn and create a training program for yourself, this is going to help you set up a game plan that will allow you to learn at a reasonable and progressive pace.

I've taken a few salsa classes here and there and though I have experience in movement, I still felt like I was stepping into a whole new world that was a lot more unfamiliar to me than other types of dance. This book covered so many things for me that they just don't have time to cover in group classes and it's definitely A LOT more affordable than a private class. Like thumbs. THUMBS! Don't use them! Who knew? The tiniest details make all the difference. This book also makes the daunting and time consuming art of Salsa less terrifying and more achievable. Glad I picked this little thing up. Gonna pick up the print version, too.

Let me make this short and sweet -- this book will short-circuit your salsa-learning curve like nothing else. I've been dancing salsa for 12 years, the first year (or two) of which were just plain hard. Without prior dance experience, I didn't even know the right questions to ask. I literally spent thousands of dollars on private lessons, CDs/DVDs, classes, clubs, congresses, festival, and cruises. I was so hooked that I flew all over the world to chase one exciting event after another. Yet even amidst my passion, I was a slow learner. Now, having just finished this book, I could nearly scream. Why didn't you write this 12 years ago when I was starting out?! I have never seen anything even close to such a concise and thoughtful collection of information about how to learn salsa. Had this book existed when I was starting, I would have save a lot of time, money, frustration, and maybe most importantly, embarrassment, as I made every rookie mistake in this book. Arghhhh!!!

There were so many 4-5 star reviews I decided to give this a try. Well, all I got from the book:"practice a lot""Take lots of lessons""It will take several years before you will become a decent salsa dancer"Duh... I think I could have figured this out on my own (probably even could have written the book). There is NOTHING in here about the actual act of learning to dance... not a single step nor technique.Honestly, the book seems to exist just as a half-hearted attempt at selling the reader on signing up for the author's DVD courses, but if this is representative of what to expect, I doubt I'll be taking the bait.

It's kind of crazy learning to dance Salsa from a book, but I like the idea. I'd recommend it if you like to dance.

This compact view is an Interesting discussion on salsa dance. It leans a lot about good practice for starting dance and specially for salsa experience.

All these pages for general common sense and a little Latin background info. No wonder this book is free. Pure nonsense

I read Smith's memoir within a few nights, which is saying something because with an infant, I don't read much without falling asleep! I didn't want to put it down because her story is fascinating, and heart breaking, and very real. Her writing really makes this book so excellent. She's funny, clever, and they way she describes her thoughts and feelings is poignant. Must read for yourself and all of the young adults in your life. It's a story about feeling out of place, and who hasn't felt like that at some point in their life?

This has to be one of the best auto-biographies I have ever read! Emily really puts you in the scenario and you can feel what she's felt. There were a lot of ways I could relate with her story, and I love that she has put it out there for others to help understand themselves or a loved one, or someone who is just curious.

I finished reading All Better Now, and I want to thank Emily Wing Smith for writing the book. It touched so many places in my heart that I can't even try to list them here. It wasn't just the storyline but Emily's voice that captured my attention. As I grew to know about her, I couldn't help but grow to like her. I hope one day to meet her. I have many questions, insights and observations that I'd love to discuss. Thank you, Emily Wing Smith, for being just the way you are and for doing what you do.

Emily’s beautifully poetic yet painful journey grabbed my heart and kept me reading until I finished her memoir. “Woo head” and “bad hand” showed her struggles, but proved she has a wonderful sense of humor. I bought this on the recommendation of a friend - impressed with the in-depth explanation of the condition and also the wide variety of recipes which are easily achievable by the home cook.

Way helpful and informative. Easy read.

The book's last four pages were eaten through and stuck together by a fuzzy mold, no attempts to even remove the mold before selling the book. The book also smells musty. (Funny that). The book content looks good though it is hard to read because of the smell, picturing mold particles making their way up my nose.

Good cookbook.

The author, herself, says that many of the Candida cures she has seen through the years are not strict enough and the patient is never totally cured, or, they are too stringent, and the patient is unable to hold out long enough to be totally cured. I firmly believe that Erica White has found that middle way. In addition, she uses modern methods, enabling her to help hundreds of patients from around the world via phone consultations, mail testing, and consultaion, and, of course, email. In this way, you take the information in her book, plus the individual follow-up she offers and your chances of getting cured, if motivated, are extremely high.

The book is definitely of little use to me.I have a severe case of Candida, everytime I eat carbohydrates of any kind. i.e. Potatoes, whole wheat, oats, my Candida flares up.The book is completely FULL OF WHEAT AND CARBOHYDRATE recipes. You will be surprissed!

A lot of Christian tosh interspersed with some useful information about practical steps to take to get Candida under control. The recipes are useless for people following food-combining or gluten-free diets. Overall, I wish I never bought it.
