This arrived yesterday and already i've completed four of the images (attached). What I like about this is that rather than create drawings for a coloring book, they have adapted actual historic prints from the 17 and 18 hundreds - and identified them by title and date in an index on the last page. This makes the whole book more meaningful for me, so I think from now on I will order books in which the images have a historical significance. The Paris fashions from the 20s and 30s is next in my cart.
31 interesting drawings mostly of people doing various things tho' there are a few nature scenes. They're identified inside the back cover; most are from the 1700s. There is a lot more black here than in other books, for example: hair and some parts of clothing; but it's part of the character and not unattractive. There's not much tiny detail like that in the Tibetan book. As with all Creative Haven books, the prints are single-sided and the pages are perforated. This is a welcome change from all the mandalas, flowers and abstract designs in my other books.
Creative Haven is the ONLY coloring book I will buy now. Paper thick, printed on one page, perforated. Great designs. From beginner to very intricate this is upper level of expertise. Why? To do properly, and to do it justice, you need to know Japanese culture and art. I LOVE THIS!
Ordered this for my boyfriend for christmas. The drawings are all really cool, and he really liked that there were not double sided pages, so that any marker coloring would not bleed onto and ruin another page
The pictures looked better online than they do in reality somehow. Too many thick black lines. However, it was a good choice for my friend who is having vision problems and cannot deal with too much detail.
I have a lot of the Creative Haven coloring books, but I don't really care for this one. The book is mostly pictures of people and I prefer nature scenes or abstract designs.
My 87 year old mother loves to color in this book, as she is from JAPAN. As she colors, she travels "back in time"
